Why Nigerian Midfielder Dubbed The New Aaron Ramsey Missed Arsenal's Trip To Barcelona
Published: August 04, 2019Promising Nigerian midfielder James Olayinka has not been selected by manager Unai Emery for Arsenal's showcase friendly against Barcelona this evening.
Twenty one players, including Bukayo Saka have landed in Barcelona for the Joan Gamper trophy clash at the Nou Camp.
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that one of the reasons why Olayinka was not considered by the Spanish tactician was because he was in action for their U23 team in their 6-1 hammering of Watford on Saturday.
The 18-year-old has been compared to former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey as he has similar attributes with the Wales international.
Olayinka gave a good account of himself in pre-season games against Colorado Rapids, Fiorentina and Angers SCO.
Meanwhile, defenders Joseph Olowu and Tobi Omole were not involved in first team duties in pre-season because they recently recovered from long term injuries while goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo is on the mend.
Nigeria international Alex Iwobi will resume training at Arsenal this week but is doubtful to be included in the match day squad vs Newcastle United on Sunday, August 11.
