Two-Goal Hero Abraham Fails To Break Chelsea Record Held By London-Born Nigerian Midfielder
Nigeria-eligible striker Tammy Abraham netted his first pair of goals in Chelsea colours in their 3-2 win against Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday, August 24.

In doing so, the number nine became the third youngest player to score twice in a Premier League match for Chelsea aged 21 years and 326 days, according to OPTA.

Eddie Newton, who is now an assistant coach at Chelsea, still holds the record of being the youngest player of Nigerian descent to net a brace in a Premier League match for The Blues.

Aged 20 years and 358 days, the midfielder scored in the 76th and 85th minute as Chelsea claimed a 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur on December 5, 1992.

The absolute Chelsea record (20y 225d) belongs to Mark Nicholls who scored twice against Coventry in January 1998.

Abraham had to wait until his seventh game for Chelsea before opening his goalscoring account for the club he first joined in 2004.
