Flying Eagles Star Makes His Debut For Watford; Success Bags Brace Of Assists
Published: August 27, 2019Tom Dele-Bashiru pulled on a Watford jersey with the number 24 on its back for the first time on Tuesday evening.
The central midfielder came off the bench in the 72nd minute as replacement for Ismaila Sarr for his Hornets debut as they advanced to the third round of the League Cup with a 3-0 rout of League One opponents Coventry City.
Dele-Bashiru's only senior appearance before today's fixture was in this same competition, against Leicester City back in the 2017-2018 season.
Signed in the summer after opting not to renew his contract with Premier League champs Manchester City, the 19-year-old was the poster boy of the Flying Eagles squad to the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup.
Making his first start of the season in all competitions, it was Isaac Success that stole the limelight from the teenager after bagging a brace of assists for Watford.
Sarr slotted home in the 37th minute after a pinpoint ball from the Super Eagles striker and it became 2-0 ten minutes after the restart when Daryl Janmaa scored after he was set up by the Nigerian.
In the closing minutes, Dele-Bashiru almost made it 4-0 but dragged his effort wide of the post after he was played in by Success.
