U23 AFCON : Nigerian Federation Make Contact With Versatile Arsenal Defender
Published: August 31, 2019Allnigeriasoccer.com has been told that the Nigeria Football Federation have made contact with versatile Arsenal defender Joseph Olowu over the possibility of representing the Nigerian National Team.
Born in Ibadan to Nigerian parents, Olowu has pledged his international future to the three-time African champions and made his intentions known when he visited the Flying Eagles camp in Poland before their World Cup match against Ukraine.
The 19-year-old had been in contention to be included on the Nigeria U23 roster for their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan next week but is set to miss out because he failed to provide his passport details when it was required by the Nigerian Federation.
At the time Olowu was contacted by the NFF, he did not have a valid Nigerian passport but the good news is that he is now eligible to play for the Nigeria U23s in subsequent games as he was issued a new passport on Tuesday.
Predominantly a central defender, he is comfortable playing as a right fullback and started his career as a central midfielder.
Olowu has been involved in every single game contested by Arsenal U21 and U23 teams in the new season and held his own against League Two opponents Northampton Town in the EFL Trophy.
