Sevilla's Nigerian Striker Enters History Books With First Goal Scored In New Primera División Femenina Season
Nigerian striker Toni Payne has entered into the history books after becoming the first player to score a goal in the new Primera División Femenina season.

In the opening match of the weekend on Saturday morning, Sevilla demolished Granadilla Tenerife 4-0, with the number 11 getting on the scoresheet in the 23rd minute.

Virgy García, Maite Albarrán and Raquel Pinel also scored for Cristian Toro's team.

Last season, Payne, who was born in the United States, hit the back of the net 7 times in 27 league appearances for Sevilla and her form attracted the attention of Super Falcons coach Thomas Dennerby.

The 24-year-old was one of the marquee players in contention to be named on the Nigeria roster for the 2019 Women's World Cup but the paperwork to change her association was not completed before the tournament in France.

Payne was invited for the Super Falcons pre-World Cup friendly against Canada last April but Sevilla received her invitation letter late and did not release her to the Nigerian Federation.
