Is Chukwueze's Spot In Villarreal Starting Line-up Under Threat?
Published: September 15, 2019Samuel Chukwueze was tipped to make his fourth start of the season against CD Leganés on Saturday but the youngster was surprisingly dropped from Javier Calleja's starting line-up.
The manager completed his surprise package by failing to utilize the 20-year-old winger throughout the encounter, so much to the surprise of many Super Eagles supporters.
Celleja's decision to ignore the player was however justified as his side recorded their first victory of the campaign after defeating the home side 3-0, thanks to a brace from Gerard Moreno and Jonathan Silva's own-goal.
Tipped as one of the young players to watch this season by many soccer pundits, Chukwueze needs to up his game because the unexpected snub from Villarreal manager should serve as a wake-up call.
Chukwueze, who has one goal to from three matches, will need to be consistent in his performances for the Yellow Submarine if he must win the intense competitions from fellow teammates.
As much as it's too early to say if the Super Eagles star has lost his spot in Villarreal's first XI, it is obvious that other players are more than willing to win the battle for the right wing position.
Meanwhile, Chidozie Awaziem started and completed the game for Leganes but couldn't prevent his team from conceding three goals.
