Promising Nigerian Striker Makes Competitive Debut For Manchester United U23
Published: September 24, 2019Dutch-born striker of Nigerian descent Dillon Hoogewerf made his competitive debut for Manchester United U23s when he replaced Largie Ramazani during their 4-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League 2 on Monday evening.
Aston Villa dominated the Old Trafford outfit from the start of the game and they took the lead in the 14th minute as Indiana Vassilev found the back of Kovář's net after an assist from Callum Rowe.
Goals from Tyreik Wright and Ramsey (2) saw the home team establish a 4-0 lead at the break, before United's Traore scored a consolation goal in the 69th minute.
In his desire to see more attacking display from his team, United manager Neil Wood introduced Hoogewerf into the encounter in the 76th minute but he couldn't affect the final result.
The 16-year-old centre-forward was on the bench when Manchester United U23s faced West Ham and Fulham in the league prior to his maiden appearance against Villa.
Hoogewerf joined the Red Devils from Ajax Amsterdam in the summer transfer window and has found the net in the U18 Premier League.
