Netherlands Set To Provisionally Cap-tie Man Utd Striker Who Wants To Improve Nigeria
Published: October 01, 2019The Royal Dutch Football Association are ahead of their Nigerian counterparts in the race for the services of Manchester United youngster Dillon Hoogewerf, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
For the first time in his career, the former Ajax Amsterdam wonderkid has received a call-up to the Netherlands U17 squad.
Last month, Hoogewerf was selected in a provisional squad list for two friendly games against France but he withdrew from the squad because of uncertainty over his fitness.
The 16-year-old has been invited by KNVB coach Mischa Visser for the U17 EURO qualifiers against Kosovo (October 9), Wales (October 12) and Slovenia (October 15).
If Hoogewerf plays in any of those games even for one second, he will become provisionally cap-tied to his country of birth.
Born to a Dutch father and a Nigerian mother, he is proud of his Nigerian roots and his big non-football-related dream is to help Nigeria improve the country.
Hoogewerf, who has played for Manchester United U23s this season, is expected to report for international duty on Monday 7 October in Mierlo ahead of a potential competitive debut for the Dutch U17 team.
