How The English Press Rated Saka As Arsenal Suffer Worst Run In 27 Years After Loss To Frankfurt
Published: November 29, 2019Arsenal's crisis ridden season continued Thursday night as they were defeated 2-1 by German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt at the Emirates stadium in a Group F match day 5 game that has further compounded Unai Emery's already bad situation at the club.
Arsenal have gone seven games without a win, which has never happened since 1992.
Allnigeriasoccer.com monitored the ratings with particular interest in Nigeria-eligible winger Bukayo Saka the main attention as expectations are rife that Emery will be sacked sooner rather than later.
The Daily Star wrote on the England youth international: "Saka 6. Didn't make an impact or the difference."
For inews.co.uk it was a 6 out of 10 for the Nigerian born forward who had a great first half but saw his performances dwindle in the second stanza.
"Bukayo Saka 6/10."
"Some lovely trickery and a peach of a delivery in the early minutes. Bought some clever fouls too.
"Some sloppy range passing though, it must be said and his precision dwindled as the game went on. His will to show what he could do was admirable, but he needed to combine it with some accuracy."
Daily Express' verdict was an average performance from the youngster with a 5/10 rating.
"Set up Aubameyang for a great chance in the opening 10 minutes and forced Ronnow into an excellent save midway through the first half.
"Missed his kick for the opener but didn't look after the ball well enough in the second period and was guilty of making poor decisions on several occasions."
The Mirror hailed the pace of the forward who had a good first half albeit his industry drastically dropped in the second half.
"Bukayo Saka - 6 - Used his pace to get in behind but saw a decent chance saved when he tried to lift one over the on rushing keeper in the first half," the Mirror noted.
A blog dedicated to Arsenal FC, All Arsenal believe the youngster who this season preferred to be called a Nigerian rather than a British only deserved a below average rating and deemed his efforts to merit only a 4/10.
"Bukayo Saka – 4."
"He was poor. Things just didn't work out for Bukayo Saka this evening whatever he tried to do."
For Football.London, maybe a change of scenery could do him a whole of good while giving him a 5.
"Bukayo Saka: The difference between the Saka who burst onto the scene the last time these two sides met and now is that the youngster no longer seems as decisive as he once was.
"Where he previously moved the ball with purpose now he seemed to need a moment to set himself, to make a call that was once instinctive.
"There were still flashes of his best qualities, including an assist for Aubameyang, but in all likelihood a period of outclassing opponents in the Under-23s might be just what the 18-year-old needs. 5."
Arsenal will return to league commitments this weekend with a Sunday game against Norwich City.
