Done Deal : Columbus Crew SC Confirm Capture Of Nigeria's All-Time Leading Scorer In MLS
Published: January 28, 2020Through their official website, Columbus Crew SC have confirmed the capture of the highest-scoring Nigerian player in Major League Soccer history, Fanendo Adi.
Adi is one of four strikers named on Columbus Crew's roster ahead of the forthcoming season after he was acquired from Major League Soccer's Waiver List on January 27.
The 29-year-old has been playing in the American top-flight for six years now, first wearing the colours of Portland Timbers before joining FC Cincinnati in July 2018.
Speaking on the transfer of the former Super Eagles invitee, Crew SC President and General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko said : "Fanendo is a forward whose proven ability as a goal scorer in our League makes him a valuable addition to our team.
"We recognize that last year was a difficult year for Fanendo both personally and professionally and we believe this new opportunity will be beneficial for him, as it reunites him with Caleb, under whom he found career-high success.
"As a Club, we believe in what he can bring to this squad as a player and teammate and that he is someone who can provide us with additional offensive options on the field.
"We will be working on integrating him into the squad and we look forward to his contributions to the Club."
The former AS Trencin, FC Copenhagen and Dynamo Kiev man has scored 55 goals in 138 regular season appearances in the MLS and has registered 14 assists.
