'Liverpool And Their Management Have The Final Decision' - Mainz Sports Director On Awoniyi's Future
Published: February 05, 2020Mainz Sports Director Rouven Schröder has refused to rule out the possibility of Taiwo Awoniyi canceling his loan at the Bundesliga outfit before the transfer window closes for business.
Although the transfer window slammed shut for clubs in Germany and England last Friday, the windows in Israel, Austria, Serbia, Croatia, Switzerland, Russia, Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine and the United States remain open.
A loan move would suit Awoniyi, Mainz and Liverpool as the former Nigeria U23 international is not in the plans of manager Achim Beierlorzer, having made only start since his arrival in Germany last summer.
"There were and there are opportunities, but ultimately Liverpool FC and its management have the final decision," Schröder explained to Kicker.
"Unfortunately did not use his chances effectively. Now he is of course giving everything, with the competition ahead of him at the moment."
Awoniyi previously spent time on loan at FSV Frankfurt, NEC, Royal Excel Mouscron and Gent.
