Ighalo Reveals The Former Man Utd Star That Influenced His Decision To Choose No. 25 Shirt
Published: February 05, 2020Manchester United's deadline day signing Odion Ighalo has suggested that Quinton Fortune influenced his decision to choose the number 25 jersey.
United's first-ever African player, Fortune was on the books of the Old Trafford outfit for seven years after joining from Atlético Madrid in Spain and won the Premier League with the club in the 2002-2003 season.
Ighalo has explained that he would have picked the number 24 he wore at Watford for three consecutive seasons but it was not available.
"Yeah, because I watched Quinton Fortune play for Man United, he was a great player and I know he put on the number 25, so I said to myself that number 25 is good," said Ighalo to Manchester United's official webpage.
"Even though I didn't get the number that I was looking for, 25 is a perfect number because it is one above the number that I wore when I was in the Premier League.''

The most famous Nigerian player to wear the number 25 jersey is Arsenal and Super Eagles legend Nwankwo Kanu.
