Ighalo's Monthly Wages At Manchester United Equals The Minimum Wages Of 12,214 Nigerian Workers
Published: March 20, 2020According to a report in the Sun UK, Odion Ighalo agreed to take a forty percent pay cut before sealing his deadline transfer to Manchester United in the January transfer window, meaning the Shanghai Shenhua loanee takes home 180,000 pounds every week as he was on £300,000 per season in China.
Not taking into account his goals, win and draw bonuses at Manchester United, the former Nigeria international earns £25,714.29 every day or £771,428.70 monthly (approximately N366,428,632.50 in Nigerian currency).
Given that the monthly minimum wage in Nigeria is N30,000.00, it means Ighalo's monthly wages can offset the wages of approximately 12, 214 Nigerian workers.
Despite the huge reduction in his take home pay, Ighalo is the highest paid Nigerian player in the whole of Europe, earning more than double the wages paid to Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi who pockets £321,429 monthly.
The 30-year-old has wasted no time in hitting the ground running since his arrival at the Red Devils, so much so that there's talk that he could be offered a permanent deal less than two months after his return to England.
The former Watford striker has tallied four goals in eight matches and has been nominated for Manchester United's Player of the Month for March 2020.
