PL2 : Azeez on target as Arsenal surrender two-goal lead to draw with Blackburn Rovers
Published: March 15, 2022Miguel Azeez was on target as Arsenal let slip a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Blackburn Rovers in a Premier League 2 encounter at Meadow Park on Monday night.
The England U20 international was one of five youngsters of Nigerian descent that started for the Gunners, the others being Mazeed Ogungbo, James Olayinka, Nathan Butler-Oyedeji and Joel Ideho.
Arsenal started on the front foot and deservedly took the lead in the 27th minute when Azeez beat the goalkeeper with a composed finish after a brilliant through ball by Butler-Oyedeji.
Lino Sousa tapped home from close range to double the advantage on 33 minutes before Joseph Ferguson pulled a goal back two minutes later.
Ideho came close to opening his Premier League 2 account for the season but saw his effort hit the woodwork on the hour mark and then on 73 minutes, Jack Vale rounded the goalkeeper and slotted the ball into the net for 2-2.
Anglo-Nigerian-Ugandan goalkeeper Ovie Ejeheri was an unused substitute for Arsenal and central defender Zach Awe was not in the matchday squad.
After 22 matches, Arsenal are second in the Premier League 2 table with 37 points, nine less than Manchester City.
