Newcastle United ready to make improved offer for most expensive African-born player in history
Published: March 16, 2022Premier League moneybags Newcastle United are considering returning to Napoli with an improved offer for their Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, according to reports.
Italian sports daily Corriere Dello Sport claims the Magpies offered around 84 million pounds to sign Osimhen but no agreement was reached.
Newcastle United are hoping to better the offer they made to Napoli when the transfer window reopens in the summer.
When the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner joined the Partenopei
from Lille in 2020, he became the most expensive African-born player in
history at seventy million euros.
Newcastle United do not have liquidity problems after Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) took control of the club in October 2021.
Kieran Trippier was their marquee signing in the January transfer window and they also brought in Bruno Guimarães and Chris Wood from Olympique Lyon and Burnley respectively.
It would be a transfer coup if Newcastle United manage to convince Osimhen to join the club as the striker has also been linked with possible moves to Real Madrid and Manchester United.
