Super Eagles camp update : Kaizer Chiefs star Akpeyi joins up with squad
South African-based goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi is the latest invited player to join up with the Super Eagles squad in Abuja, before the national team's back-to-back matches with Ghana in the 2022 World Cup playoff.

Seven of the twenty five players named in the finalized squad are now in the country's capital, with Odion Ighalo, Leon Balogun, Semi Ajayi, Frank Onyeka, William Troost-Ekong and Ola Aina reporting for international duty earlier today.

Kaizer Chiefs star Akpeyi will be battling Sparta Rotterdam's Maduka Okoye and Omonia Nicosia's Francis Uzoho for a starting shirt against the Black Stars.

The 35-year-old has not been in goal for the Super Eagles since going the distance in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Lesotho in November 2019.

The former Chippa United man has been included in the matchday squad in nine of the last ten competitive matches played by the Super Eagles.

In the current season, Akpeyi has played twelve matches for Kaizer chiefs in the DSTV Premiership, keeping five clean sheets while conceding seven goals.
