'It's a massive game' - Rangers star Bassey focusing on how he can help Nigeria beat Ghana
Rangers star Calvin Bassey has made it clear that he is focusing on how he can help the Super Eagles beat the Black Stars when both teams face off in the first leg of their 2022 World Cup playoff on Friday.

Having been left out of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations squad and the internationals in November, Bassey merited a recall to the Super Eagles on the back of his excellent performances for Rangers in recent months.

Born in Aosta, Bassey qualifies to play international football for his country of birth, Italy, England and Nigeria but has chosen to play for the Super Eagles given that he has now accepted two invites from two different coaches Gernot Rohr and Augustine Eguavoen.

If the versatile left-back steps out onto the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, he will be cap-tied to the Nigeria Football Federation.

With his Rangers teammates Joe Aribo and Leon Balogun also with the squad in Abuja, he has found it much easier adapting to the team.

"It's a massive game of course. It's just focusing on how I can help the team, what I need to do, what my role is going to be," Bassey told NFF TV on Tuesday.

"The biggest thing is just to focus and get locked in because it's going to be a test.

"We know they are a good team but we also have good players so it'd be a good match, and hopefully we can get halfway there."

Bassey shone for Rangers as they knocked out former European champions Borussia Dortmund and Red Star Belgrade from the Europa League.
