Nigeria training : Bassey tested in two different positions; keeps RW Dennis quiet but Sanusi more assured
Published: March 24, 2022Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Glasgow Rangers rising star Calvin Bassey was tested in two different positions during Nigeria's closed door training session at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Wednesday evening and he gave a good account of himself.
After the jogging and stretching exercises, and passing drills, the players got down to business with Super Eagles caretaker boss Augustine Eguavoen splitting the squad into two groups for a training game.
For the team wearing red bibs, Kenneth Omeruo and William Troost-Ekong were the two central defenders, with Calvin Bassey deployed at left-back and Abdullahi Shehu taking up the right-back spot.
Watford's top scorer Emmanuel Dennis was the right winger for the other team that wore green shirts, meaning he was up against Bassey in an individual duel.
Dennis didn't do much for most of the session as he was kept in check by Bassey and didn't look like the player who has set the Premier League alight with a goal involvement of fourteen in 27 appearances.
As the training progressed, Eguavoen changed the formation to a 3-5-2 and Bassey had a new brief as the left-sided central defender and he also performed well in that position.
Having said that, the Leicester City academy product looks to be behind Zaidu Sanusi in the pecking order of left-backs as the Porto star was more assured during the workout and has international experience.
