'Fill up the stadium' - Eguavoen urges Super Eagles fans to come out in droves for Ghana clash
Published: March 28, 2022Nigeria's interim boss Augustine Eguavoen has urged Super Eagles fans to come out in drives to cheer the team to victory in Tuesday's 2022 World Cup playoff against the Black Stars of Ghana.
In a bid to ensure the MKO Abiola Stadium is filled to capacity, Nigeria fans have been helped by the Sports Ministry and the Nigerian Federation, who have purchased 20,000 tickets for supporters wishing to attend the game.
In addition, the Sports Ministry in partnership with the NFF have made buses available to convey fans based in Abuja to the stadium without them making any payment.
Eguavoen noted that expectations are high for Tuesday evening's game with a place in the 2022 World Cup at stake.
Speaking at today's pre-match press conference, Eguavoen said : "Expectations are high - Nigerians, football lovers, Super Eagles supporters.
"They have been cheering for the team, they should continue, and we can promise them at the end of the day everybody will be happy, so they should keep the support high. Fill up the stadium and cheer Nigeria."
Eguavoen, who is carrying the aspirations of Nigerian coaches on his shoulders, fancies the chances of the Super Eagles beating Ghana to qualify for the World Cup.
Reacting to a question from SWAN FCT chief Bunmi Haruna, Eguavoen said : "I'm representing all Nigerian coaches both old and young. We need to collectively be in Qatar so that's the message.
"Once we cross the line tomorrow, everybody will be jubilating."
"Once we cross the line tomorrow, everybody will be jubilating."
The Super Eagles have qualified for six of the last seven World Cups, reaching the second round on three occasions, in 1994, 1998 and 2014.
