Super Eagles player ratings : Uzoho at fault; Aribo overrated; Simon unconvincing; Osimhen shows spark
The Super Eagles on Tuesday evening failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after a better forgotten 1-1 draw against the Black Stars of Ghana at the Moshood Abiola stadium in Abuja.

Izuchukwu Michael here presents the ratings of the Nigerian players.

The Starters

Goalkeeper

Francis Uzoho: Was not at his best in the return fixture in comparison to the first leg in Kumasi. Was at fault for Thomas Partey's goal which squirmed past his arms. 4/10.

Defenders

Ola Aina: Was good going forward but in defence struggled most times from his right side. 5/10.

Calvin Bassey: Like Aina was also lethargic in defending against the Black Stars but there were some decent crosses he whipped inside the opposition box and won some fouls. 5/10.

William Troost Ekong: Restored parity with the penalty goal and was at hand to make vital clearances when Ghana countered. 6/10.

Leon Balogun: Was lethargic with his passes and strayed off his position a couple of times. 6/10.

Midfielders and attackers

Oghenekaro Etebo: Battling in midfield but did not assert same authority as Wilfred Ndidi could have. Subbed off. 5/10.

Frank Onyeka: Made some good interceptions and was also useful in overloading the right side of the Eagles attack. Subbed off too. 5/10.

Joe Aribo : You can tell the Rangers midfielder is overrated with his sloppy display against the Black Stars. Didn't deserve to be on the pitch for more than 45 minutes.  3.5/10

Emmanuel Dennis : The Watford man played on the right side of attack in place of injured Samuel Chukwueze. He was not effective at the position going forward albeit he must be commended for getting back in defence to help Ola Aina. 5./10.

Ademola Lookman : Started his first game for the Super Eagles. His crosses from the flanks were rather too long for his teammates. Subbed off. 5/10.

Victor Osimhen : Nigeria's only hope for a goal or more. Scored what was correctly overruled for offside. 6/10.

The Substitutes

Shehu Abdullahi : Came on for Frank Onyeka in midfield but was later shunted to the right back position. 4/10.

Moses Simon : Replaced Lookman. He tried to make his impact felt from the wing with some footwork and crosses into the box but the latter were disappointing. 4/10.

Ahmed Musa : Introduced with barely 18 minutes to  the end of the match but did not offer much going forward. 3.5/10.

Odion Ighalo : Was ineffective after coming off the bench. 3.5/10

Sadiq Umar : Cane off the bench with three minutes left. NA
