'It helped in getting the equaliser' - Nigeria hero Amokachi on Osimhen's missed chance in 12th min
The Super Eagles failed to deliver when it mattered following a 1-1 draw with regional rivals Ghana in the second leg of their 2022 World Cup playoff at the National Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday evening.

The result left many Super Eagles fans screaming for the head of interim boss Augustine Eguavoen and Nigerian Federation President Amaju Pinnick.

After Thomas Partey put the visitors in front with a brilliant shot from distance in the 11th minute, Nigeria took the initiative and came close to bagging the equaliser a minute later as Victor Osimhen's arrowed effort missed target by a whisker.

William Troost-Ekong confidently dispatched a spot kick awarded after Ademola Lookman was fouled in the area and restored parity for the home team in the process midway through the first half.

In his halftime analysis, Nigeria legend Daniel Amokachi praised Osimhen, saying the missed chance by the Napoli striker helped the Super Eagles score an equaliser a few moments later.

Speaking on SuperSport, the two-time World Cupper said : "Osimhen had a decent run behind the Ghana defence, he controlled the ball very, very well which is difficult.

"He hit across the goal, that was the sign that there was more to come that Nigeria can equalise any second because like I said earlier that bite after going down, definitely it helped in getting the equaliser."

With four goals in eight appearances - all of them starts - Osimhen finished as Nigeria's top scorer in 2022 World Cup qualifying.
