'We will bounce back from setback'- FCK dazzler Amoo breaks his silence after WCQ heartbreak
Published: March 31, 2022FC Copenhagen dazzler Akinkunmi Amoo has broken his silence in the wake of the Super Eagles' failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup following their 1-1 draw with Ghana at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday evening.
Amoo wasn't included in the matchday squad for the goalless draw against the Black Stars in Kumasi last Friday and monitored proceedings from the bench in the second leg clash two days ago.
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Amoo was eager to enter the pitch as a substitute on Tuesday evening as the winger believed he would have made the difference in the last ten minutes of the game.
Augustine Eguavoen brought on more experienced attack-minded duo Odion Ighalo and Ahmed Musa with 12 minutes to go as his side searched for a winning goal, before Almeria frontman Umar Sadiq entered the fray in the 88th minute.
Amoo took to social media to apologize to fans for the country not qualifying for the 2022 World Cup and assured that the Super Eagles will be back stronger than before.
"Tears and pains, it wasn't the result we wanted. We apologize for not making it to Qatar. I'm honoured for the opportunity, my joy would have been accomplished with a World Cup ticket," Amoo wrote on Twitter.
"Life is about learning, we will bounce back from this setback. We appreciate your support."
Amoo flew back to Scandinavia on Wednesday night ahead of FC Copenhagen's Danish Superliga clash against Aalborg BK.
