Rangers coach reveals why in-form defender Bassey was left out of squad vs St Mirren
Glasgow Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has revealed exactly why Calvin Bassey has not been included in the matchday squad for their ongoing game against St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.

The Dutch football tactician has made five changes to the side that started against Sporting Braga in the quarterfinal of the Europa League on Thursday, with Leon Balogun and Bassey among the players dropping out.

Joe Aribo has been named in the starting lineup, Balogun is on the bench and Bassey misses out entirely.

The Super Eagles left-back has been in fine form of late and was the only Rangers player named in the latest Whoscored.com's Europa League Team of the Week.

After starting twenty-two consecutive matches in the Scottish top-flight, Bassey was given a rest ahead of Thursday's UEL second leg clash with Sporting Braga.

Speaking to Sky Sports before the start of the game at SMISA Stadium (Paisley), Bronckhorst said : "We have to mix things a little bit up because we have a hectic schedule.

"I didn't put Jack and Bassey in the squad today so they are fresh for Thursday's second leg against Braga."

Experienced Croatian defender Borna Barisic has come into Rangers starting lineup in the absence of Bassey.
