Premier League Cup : Derby's Aghatise scores brilliant goal but West Brom win 7-goal thriller
Published: April 11, 2022Former Manchester United schoolboy Osazee Aghatise was on target for Derby County U23s on Sunday but his goal was in vain as his team exited the Premier League Cup at the quarterfinal stage following a 4-3 loss to West Brom at Pride Park Stadium.
Aghatise started and was in action for 68 minutes while his teammate of Nigerian descent, Josh Shonibare entered the game as a substitute in the 46th minute.
Wearing the number 8 at the back of his jersey, Aghatise produced an excellent finish from just outside the box to give Derby County the lead in the 22nd minute.
Andrews equalised with a fine finish of his own, Malcolm put the Baggies in front in the 44th minute but the home team leveled things up through Watson in first half stoppage time.
Just before the hour mark, Stretton missed a chance to give Derby the lead when his shot hit the crossbar from twelve yards out, failing to convert a penalty won by Shonibare.
The miss would prove costly as Zac Ashworth netted a quickfire double to put West Brom 4-2 up before Sibley pulled a goal back with eleven minutes left on the clock.
Born in Germany nineteen years ago, Aghatise has made three first team appearances for Derby County including debuts in the Championship and Emirates FA Cup.
