Arsenal's Nigerian-born midfielder undergoes successful surgery on ankle injury
Published: April 11, 2022It is unlikely that Arsenal-owned Nigerian-born midfielder Tim Akinola will play football again this season, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Akinola has undergone successful surgery on the ankle injury he sustained during training with Scottish Premiership club Dundee United last month.
The
20-year-old returned to parent club Arsenal to receive treatment and
the medics at the north London club recommended that he should go under
the knife in an attempt to finally put an end to the ankle issue.
Prior
to returning to the Emirates Stadium outfit, he made one appearance for
Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership - his professional debut
which came against St Johnstone, where he lasted 45 minutes on the pitch
before he was substituted.
The former
Huddersfield and Lincoln City starlet was a non-playing substitute in
five league matches against Dundee FC, Motherwell, Rangers, Aberdeen and
Hearts.
Akinola was itching to go out on
loan to experience first team football as he was yet to make his senior
debut for Arsenal despite training with the first team several times in
the first half of the season.
His contract with Arsenal expires on June 30, 2022 but the Gunners have a team option to keep him beyond the end of this season.
