'You'd put your money on Aribo' - Rangers legend on Super Eagles star not passing to Kent 51st min
Published: April 15, 2022Scottish Premiership champions Rangers have set up a meeting with RB Leipzig in the semifinals of the UEFA Europa League after a 3-2 success on aggregate against Sporting Braga at Ibrox Stadium on Thursday night.
The Light Blues were 2-0 up at the break courtesy of James Tavernier's brace, the Portuguese side side halved the deficit in the 83rd minute to send the game to extra time, before Kemar Roofe's game-winning goal in the 101st minute.
It was the impressive Nigeria international Joe Aribo that provided the assists for the crucial first and last goals scored by Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team.
Rangers could have been home and dry five minutes into the second half but Aribo went for glory instead of passing to Ryan Kent.
The number 17 saw his left-footed shot narrowly miss the target with Kent screaming for a pass.
Rangers icon Mark Hateley is of the opinion that Aribo decided to do it on his own because he was high on confidence.
Speaking on BBC Sportsound, Hateley stated : "Joe Aribo could pass that, but he's in confident mood, he's on his left foot, you'd put your money on him scoring."
For all the criticism he has received in recent weeks, Aribo has been gradually returning to his best form, having had a hand in seven goals (2 goals, 5 assists) this calendar year, including three in his last two games.
