Former Manchester United striker Ighalo makes AFC Champions League debut
Published: April 16, 2022Former Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo has made his AFC Champions League debut.
The Nigeria international played his first game in the competition as Al Hilal defeated Istiklol 1-0 at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in Riyadh on Friday night.
Ighalo started and was in action for 72 minutes before making way for Abdullah Al Hamdan.
The 32-year-old was not at the disposal of Ramon Diaz for the Champions League matches with Sharjah FC and Al-Rayyan SC because he was recovering from illness.
Al Hilal are the only club with a one hundred percent after three matches in the group stage of the Champions League.
The Blue Waves secured three points against Istiklol courtesy of Salman Al Faraj, who volleyed home from close range a cross put into the box by Yasser Al Shahrani.
Ighalo scored in his first game after the international break, against his former club Al Shabab, to take his tally for the season to 23 goals in all competitions, extending his career best for goals in a single season in the process.
