Flying Eagles-eligible defender benched as Brighton do north London double with win vs Spurs
Published: April 16, 2022There was a massive twist in the race for the fourth Champions League spot after Brighton & Hove did the north London double with a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
For the ninth time in all competitions this season, Flying Eagles-eligible central defender Odel Offiah earned a call-up to the first team of the Seagulls but the 19-year-old watched proceedings from the bench for the entirety of the game.
Offiah made his professional debut for Brighton & Hove in a 2-0 win at Cardiff City in the League Cup back in August, before making his Emirates FA Cup debut in January 2022.
Tottenham Hotspur were going for their fifth consecutive win in the top-flight but it wasn't to be as the visitors secured their first win at Spurs since 1981.
In the opening forty five minutes, Tottenham Hotspur struggled to create chances and did not get a shot on target as a disciplined Brighton side frustrated Antonio Conte's men.
Leandro Trossard, who was on target against Arsenal at the Emirates last weekend, netted the game-winning goal with the outside of his boot in the 90th minute.
Capable of playing as a central defender and fullback, Offiah has cited
Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk and Manchester City's England
international Kyle Walker as his role models.
