Chukwuemeka reveals the Aston Villa player that has helped him most; Gerrard his England hero
Published: April 25, 2022Speaking on Rising Ballers' Perspectives Episode Five, England U19 international of Nigerian descent Carney Chukwuemeka revealed that former Manchester United captain Ashley Young is the first team player that has helped him the most since he was promoted to Aston Villa first team.
Chukwuemeka is widely regarded as one of the top teenagers in England, making his Premier League debut at the age of seventeen and has been named in matchday squads on 32 occasions.
Young, a precocious talent in his own right in his younger years as a footballer, is in a good position to advise Chukwuemeka, having played for European giants such as Manchester United and Inter Milan.
On his curriculum vitae, the former England winger has won the Premier League, Serie A, Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup.
"Ashley Young. I feel like because he started young, he took us youngsters under his wing, gave us encouragement, so I'd say him," Chukwuemeka said.
The Anglo-Nigerian admitted that Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard was his England hero growing up.
Chukwuemeka is now playing under Gerrard at Aston Villa, making eight appearances with the retired Three Lions midfielder in the dugout.
On his England hero growing up, Chukwuemeka responded : "Obviously he's a midfielder, his finishing from outside the box, he's a leader, he could win games by himself so Steven Gerrard."
Chukwuemeka became provisionally cap-tied to England when he started for the Young Lions in a 4-0 rout of Andorra in an U19 EURO qualifier in November 2021.
