Shoretire watches proceedings from the bench as Manchester United share the points with Chelsea
Published: April 29, 2022Shola Shoretire watched proceedings from the bench as Manchester United and Chelsea played out a 1-1 draw in a Premier League clash at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
The England U19 international benefited from the unavailability of six first teamers to be included in the matchday squad by manager Ralf Rangnick - the first time he has been named in a Premier League matchday squad in 2021-2022.
When Rangnick brought on Alejandro Garnacho Ferreyra to replace Anthony Elanga in the 90h minute, the change, United's third of the night, ended the possibility of Shoretire making an appearance off the bench.
The scoreline remained level at the end of the first half but the Red Devils have to thank goalkeeper De Gea for keeping the score blank, with the Spaniard saving efforts from N'Golo Kante, Kai Havertz and Reece James.
Chelsea deservedly took the lead on the hour mark as Marcos Alonso powered a volley past De Gea but the lead lasted just two minutes as Cristiano Ronaldo fired in the equaliser for his 23rd goal of the season.
Manchester United have a slim chance of qualifying for next season's Champions League as they are currently sitting sixth in the table with 55 points, five less than fourth-placed Arsenal who have played two games less.
Shoretire has not featured in the English top-flight since the final day of the 2020-2021 campaign.
