Former Scotland manager insists Iwobi is a carbon copy of Barcelona loanee
Published: May 06, 2022Former Scotland manager Alex McLeish has claimed that Alex Iwobi is a carbon copy of Barcelona loanee Adama Traore.
Despite a positive start to his career at Barcelona, the Spain international has lost relevance at the La Liga giants in the last few months, failing to start their last nine matches in the league.
Traore has a purchase clause of thirty million euros, a fee that could prove a stumbling block should Barcelona decide to sign him on a permanent basis.
McLeish has suggested that Iwobi and Traore have similar offensive attributes but what separates them is the Nigerian is better when it comes to helping out the team defensively.
He has speculated that the Super Eagles star could be offloaded in the summer if the Wolverhampton Wanderers-owned player is signed by Everton.
"It would probably pave the way for an exit or two. That is if he does go down that road," McLeish said to Football Insider.
"If Lampard feels Traore suits the club better than Iwobi, it’s difficult to see those two in the same team. They’re kind of carbon copies.
"Alex Iwobi maybe does a more defensive job."
Iwobi showd his versatility by impressing at right wing-back in Everton's 1-0 win over Chelsea last weekend.
The Hale End Academy product has put in a full shift in the last nine matches played by Everton in the Premier League, which gives a hint that he is very much in the plans of Lampard ahead of next season.
