England U19 international of Nigerian descent Shola Shoretire, who is age-eligble to represent United in the FA Youth Cup but was not selected as he has been fully promoted to the U23 squad, was also at the match at Old Trafford.
Manchester United took the lead as Rhys Bennett headed in Sam Murray's free-kick in in the 13th minute but Powell found the bottom corner with a left-footed drive to equalise just before halftime.
On 77 minutes, Garnacho converted from 12 yards to make it 2-1 after Nottingham Forest defender Zach Abbott gave away a penalty, and the United striker netted his second of the evening in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
