Scottish champions Celtic join race to sign Nigeria-eligible fullback

Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have reportedly joined the race to sign Nigeria-eligible fullback Matthew Sorinola in the summer transfer window.

The future of the promising defender has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks, with reports linking the Royale Union Saint-Gilloise starlet with a return to the United Kingdom.

According to Walesonline, Celtic are believed to be keeping tabs on Sorinola who is also drawing interest from relegated Premier League team Norwich City and Championship side Swansea City.

The 21-year-old left-back joined Royale Union Saint-Gilloise last summer after turning down a new and much-improved contract to remain at MK Dons.

A product of the Fulham academy, Sorinola spent four years at MK Dons, rising through the ranks before making his senior debut in a Papa John's Trophy clash against his former employers Fulham in October 2019.

The following season, he established himself as a first-team regular, making 43 appearances in all competitions and was involved in eight goals.

Celtic have signed some promising youngsters of Nigerian descent in recent seasons, bringing in Armstrong Okoflex, Tobi Oluwayemi, Bosun Lawal and Osaze Urhoghide from Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Watford and Sheffield Wednesday respectively.
