Official : Ball-playing Anglo-Nigerian defender released by Aston Villa
Published: June 11, 2022
Aston Villa have submitted their retained and released list to the Premier League following the conclusion of the 2021-2022 season.
The Lions have confirmed that Northamptonshire-born left-sided defender of Nigerian descent Mungo Bridge will be departing the club when his contract expires on June 30, 2022.
Bridge has been described by Aston Villa's official website as a classy, ball-playing centre-back.
The 21-year-old made his senior debut for Aston Villa in a 4-1 loss to Liverpool in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup in January 2021 and signed his first professional contract last July.
He spent the first part of last season on loan at FC Annecy, making two appearances off the bench for the Championnat National side, before he was recalled in January.
Chisom Afoka, Carney and Caleb Chukwuemeka, Tim Iroegbunam and Ruben Shakpoke have been retained by Aston Villa ahead of the start of pre-season training.
Central midfielders Iroegbunam and Carney Chukwuemeka featured in the Premier League last season.
