Two Nigeria-eligible players join Man Utd, Liverpool, Barca starlets on Golden Boy shortlist
Published: June 15, 2022On Wednesday, Italian sports newspaper Tuttosport revealed the 100 nominees for the 2022 Golden Boy, awarded to the best U21 player in Europe, with two players of Nigerian descent making the cut.
PSV Eindhoven winger Nonso Madueke and Udinese left-back Destiny Udogie have been shortlisted for the prestigious award.
Madueke, an England U21 international, recorded fifteen goal involvements (9 goals, 6 assists) in 35 all-competition appearances for PSV over the course of the 2021-2022 campaign.
The 19-year-old Udogie had a breakout season at the Bianconeri, netting three goals and registering five assists from 35 Serie A appearances, and his form has seen him being linked with top clubs in Italy and England.
The top talents in the world are in the race for the prestigious accolade including five players from Barcelona, namely
Pedri, Gavi, Nico, Ansu Fati and Baldé.
Manchester United have two representatives in Anthony Elanga and Amad, while Harvey Elliot and Portugal U21 international Carvalho are the Liverpool starlets on the shortlist.
Pedri (Barcelona), Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund) and Eduardo Camavinga (Real Madrid) are among the favorites for the 2022 Golden Boy.
Cap-tied Germany internationals of Nigerian descent Jamal Musiala and Karim Adeyemi have also been nominated for the award.
