EPL opening weekend : Iwobi's Everton, Tosin's Fulham get tough start; Nigeria stars face off
Published: June 16, 2022The English Premier League on Thursday morning released the fixtures for the 2022-2023 campaign with some intriguing clashes set to involve Nigerian players on the opening weekend.
Hale End Academy product Alex Iwobi should be in contention to make his fifteenth career appearance against Chelsea when Everton host the Londoners at Goodison Park on Saturday, August 6, kickoff 1730 hours.
The Super Eagles playmaker has scored two career goals against Chelsea, both coming in the colours of boyhood club Arsenal.
Tosin Adarabioyo and Fulham have also been handed a tough start that sees them hosting one of the title favourites Liverpool in a lunchtime kickoff on August 6.
Having said that, the central defender has not tasted defeat in his two previous outings against Jurgen Klopp's team, winning one and drawing the other.
Frank Onyeka's Brentford will be the first Premier League team to visit the King Power Stadium next season.
The Bees midfielder is in line to face his international teammates Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi on August 6.
In other matchday one fixtures, Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise's Crystal Palace start their campaign against Folarin Balogun's Arsenal at Selhurst Park on Friday, August 5, while Dominic Solanke's Bournemouth host Carney Chukwuemeka's Aston Villa at the Vitality Stadium the following day.
Nathan Tella and Southampton kickoff their campaign with a tough trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to take on Tottenham Hotspur.
In one of the two games scheduled for Sunday, August 7, Shola Shoretire's Manchester United and Odel Offiah's Brighton & Hove meet at Old Trafford.
