Negotiations at final stages for €20m fee, final details to be agreed soon.
Kicker reported today that Awoniyi was absent at Union Berlin on the first day of pre-season training when the players were due for medical tests, fueling speculation that a transfer is in the offing.
The 2013 U17 World Cup winner with the Golden Eaglets was not called up to the Super Eagles for their matches this summer and it is thought that the logical explanation for his absence has to do with his future.
Nottingham Forest don't necessarily have to reach a financial agreement with Union Berlin as Awoniyi has a release clause of 20 million euros which can be activated that would allow him leave the Bundesliga side immediately.
The former Liverpool starlet netted fifteen league goals in 2021-2022, which saw him end the season as the sixth highest goalscorer in the German top flight.
Liverpool will receive ten percent of the transfer fee once the deal is completed.
