Shoretire hits the woodwork as Man Utd U21s earn win against Kidderminster Harriers
Published: July 26, 2022Manchester United U21s earned a 1-0 win over National League North club Kidderminster Harriers in a pre-season friendly at Aggborough on Tuesday evening.
England U19 international of Nigerian descent Shola Shoretire started for the Red Devils amid speculation linking him with a temporary departure from Old Trafford before the close of the summer transfer window.
Habeeb Ogunneye and Maximillian Oyedele were not available for selection as both are currently with the U19 squad in Northern Ireland for two challenge matches at the SuperCupNI.
Neither team could break the deadlock in a cagey first half but Shoretire had two chances to give United the lead.
The attacking midfielder saw his shot saved by The Reds goalkeeper Tom Palmer inside fifteen minutes before hitting the woodwork with three minutes remaining in the half.
Seven minutes past the hour mark, Manchester United grabbed what proved to be the game-winning goal through
Mateo Mejia, who swept the ball home after a cross from Charlie McNeil.
Shoretire was invited to train with Manchester United's first team at the start of pre-season preparations but has been training with the development squad following his omission from the Tour 2022 roster.
Manchester United U21s will face National League side Altrincham in their next pre-season friendly on Saturday, July 30.
