Premier League side Aston Villa are closely monitoring the situation of Anglo-Nigerian youngster Tim Iroegbunam ahead of the January transfer window.

The 2022 European U19 champion was loaned out by Aston Villa to Queens Park Rangers so he can play on a regular basis.

The plan has worked out well for all the parties, with the central midfielder involved in every single game played by the Hoops  since his loan move with the exception of the 2-0 loss at Coventry just before the World Cup break.

According to Birmingham Live, Aston Villa want Iroegbunam to maintain his regular run of match minutes in the Championship but he could be recalled next month if one of their first team midfielders suffers an injury before the close of the January transfer window.

The Lions negotiated a recall clause in the deal taking Iroegbunam to Queens Park Rangers and can decide to end his stay in London by activating the clause next month.

Former Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard was initially reluctant to let Iroegbunam depart in the summer transfer window but eventually gave the green light to the loan move.

The 19-year-old has appeared in four first team matches for Aston Villa, logging 97 minutes.
