'Top-class strike' - Ex-Super Eagles attacker hails quality of Arsenal star Nketiah goal

Former Nigeria international Efan Ekoku on Monday night hailed the quality of Eddie Nketiah's goal in Arsenal's 3-1 home win against West Ham United.

The Gunners are now seven points above second-placed Newcastle United after restarting the campaign from where they left off.

West Ham United went ahead with a penalty scored by Saïd Benrahma in the first half after Bukayo Saka had a goal overruled for a foul in the buildup.

Arsenal thought they had been granted a chance to equalize when they were awarded a penalty just before the interval but on VAR review, the call was canceled.

Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah scored for Arsenal in the second half as Mikel Arteta's team earned their thirteenth win in fifteen league matches this term.

Ekoku, who was on commentary duties for the Premier League world feed,  praised the quality of the goal scored by Nketiah in the 69th minute.

"It's the move of a natural born goal scorer. Look at that, just rolling  (West Ham defender) Thilo Kehrer it has to be said.

"If I say it's 'schoolboy defending, that will be very harsh on 'schoolboy' but that's a great, little movement (by Nketiah). He knows where the goal is. He didn't even have to look up.

"Nketiah looks very scary. There's a little tug of the shirt really. That's low-grade defending. But it's a top-class strike.

Continuing to comment on the quality of the goal by the former England youth international of Ghanaian descent, Ekoku who was part of Nigeria's 1994 Africa Cup of Nations triumph said :

"He's (Nketiah) gone for power but he's also gone with the side footing to give him accuracy. That's a terrific goal. That's a cool finish. Eddie Nketiah will really be pleased about that.

" He's under pressure to perform not just in goal-scoring but all-round game. It's a good start as Gabriel Jesus will be out for a period," Ekoku stressed.
