Ninth clean sheet of the season : Another MOTM display for Arsenal loanee Okonkwo
Published: January 02, 2023On-loan Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo earned further rave reviews after shining for Crewe Alexandra in their hard-fought 1-0 win over Tranmere Rovers in a League Two match staged at Mornflake Stadium on New Year's Day.
After Charlie Colkett opened the scoring in the 34th minute, Okonkwo made some brilliant saves to deny the Tranmere Rovers players from finding the back of the net.
The Hale End Academy graduate was voted Man of the Match after his spectacular display.
On his FA Cup debut in November, Okonkwo also picked up the Man of the Match accolade, capping off a brilliant performance with a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Leyton Orient.
Yesterday was the ninth time the Super Eagles-eligible glovesman has registered a clean sheet since his arrival at the Railwaymen on a season-long loan.
Against Tranmere Rovers, the Anglo-Nigerian kept their players at bay on at least four occasions, denying Kieron Morris in the tenth minute, Chris Merrie at minute 33, Kane Hemmings just before the hour mark, and claimed Hawkes' corner shortly afterwards,
Okonkwo is considered a big part of the future at Arsenal and is expected to return to the Emirates Stadium at the end of the 2022-2023 campaign.
