Evergreen Colchester United striker John Akinde named in EFL Team of the Week
Published: January 09, 2023Evergreen Colchester United striker John Akinde has been named in the EFL Team of the Week after catching the eye in his side's 3-1 road win over Harrogate Town this past weekend.
Akinde was the only player of Nigerian descent included in the EFL Team of the Week comprising the top performers in the League One and League Two.
At Wetherby Road on Saturday, Akinde got Colchester United off to a fine start with a cool finish into the bottom corner in the 12th minute.
The 33-year-old is one of three Colchester United players who cracked the EFL Team of the Week , the others being goalkeeper Kieran O'Hara and central defender Tom Dallison.
Akinde joined the U's on a two-and-a-half-year contract last January and has gone on to make 35 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring six times while providing three assists.
The other clubs he has represented in the Football League include Wycombe Wanderers, Dagenham & Redbridge FC, Crawley Town, Barnet, Lincoln City, Brentford, Bristol Rovers, Portsmouth, Gillingham and Bristol City.
He is credited with 100 goals in 395 appearances in the Football League.
