Super Eagles defender Troost-Ekong makes his comeback from injury against Inter Milan
Published: April 08, 2023Super Eagles centre back, William Troost Ekong featured for US Salernitana 1919 in their 1-1 draw with Inter Milan on match day 29 of the Serie A at Arechi stadium, Salernitana's home ground.
It was the first time Troost-Ekong would feature for his club since his return from a knee injury which saw him miss Nigeria's two-legged tie against Guinea-Bissau in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers in the last International break.
Due to injury, Ekong missed four league games and was named on the bench for back-to-back games against Bologna and Spezia but had to wait for today's encounter to make his return.
He came on for Lorenzo Pirola in the second half and was on the pitch for 24 minutes as Salernitana got a hard-earned draw.
Ekong joined the Italian outfit in the last transfer window from Watford and had made three consecutive starts before his injury. In total, he has now made four appearances for Salernitana.
It was a dramatic encounter which saw the home side get a goal on the stroke of regulation time.
Robin Gosens gave Inter Milan the lead in the 6th minute and the Nerazzurri had several opportunities to increase their lead but were denied by the brilliant Guillermo Ochoa who was in goal for the home side.
Antonio Candreva salvaged a point for the Garnets in the 90th with a 30-yard strike.
