Official: Irish-Nigerian CB signs new deal with Celtic and joins Fleetwood Town on loan
Published: August 17, 2023
Through their official website, Celtic have announced that versatile Irish-Nigerian centre-back Bosun Lawal has extended his contract with the club to 2026.
He will then proceed to join the English Football League One side Fleetwood Town on a loan deal for the rest of the season to garner more experience
He could make his debut for Fleetwood Town when they travel to Pride Park Stadium to face Derby County.
He has only made one first-team appearance for Celtic since joining in 2021 from Watford which came in a Scottish Cup fixture last season against Morton.
Despite having difficulty finding game time with the Hoops, he is highly revered by the coaching staff and that explains why he has been given a new deal.
Last season, he made appearances for Celtic B team in the Scottish Lowland League and the Premier League International Cup, and played a key role as the Hoops won the Glasgow Cup.
Lawal was part of the Hoops first-team squad for the pre-season tour of Portugal and Japan.
The 20-year-old is primarily a centre-back but can also play as a midfielder which proves his versatility.
