Bayer Leverkusen striker Boniface highest-rated player in Bundesliga Team of the Week
Published: September 04, 2023New Super Eagles invitee Victor Boniface has been recognized for his outstanding performance during Bayer Leverkusen's 5-1 win over Darmstadt on Saturday with celebrated football statistics website Whoscored.com naming him in its German Bundesliga Team of the Week.
With a brace and assist against Darmstadt, Boniface became only the third Bundesliga player with six goal contributions in his first three Bundesliga games (4 goals, 2 assists), after Dortmund's Paco Alcacer in 2018 and Erling Haaland in 2020.
Against Darmstadt, the former Royale Union Saint-Gilloise striker jinked past two players before clipping an exquisite finish over the goalkeeper to open the scoring after twenty minutes, and went on to double Bayer Leverkusen's advantage just past the hour mark.
In a 3-4-3 formation, Boniface leads the attack and was flanked by Arsenal old boy Takuma Asano and Guinea national teamer Serhou Guirassy in the Team of the Week.
Six different clubs have contributed players to the Team of the Week, namely VfB Stuttgart (3), RB Leipzig (3),Bayern Munich (2), Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayer Leverkusen and Bochum.
Of the eleven players named in the Team of the Week, Boniface was the highest rated player at 9.68, placing first ahead of Guirassy (9.04) and Chris Führich (8.85).
Boniace registered a game-high seven shots against Darmstadt with three on target, made two key passes, won two aerial duels and completed a game-high five dribbles.
