Turkish clubs Ankaragucu and Konyaspor interested in signing Nigeria's 2018 World Cupper
Published: September 05, 2023
Nigeria's 2018 World Cupper, Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo is being linked with a transfer to the Turkish Super Lig.
According to Turkish sports daily Fanatik, Ankaragucu and Konyaspor are working on a deal to sign the Salernitana centre-forward.
It has been suggested that Simy has turned down transfers to Greek Super League team PAOK and Azerbaijani outfit Neftci Baku in order to play in the Turkish Super Lig.
The lanky striker is now on the books of Italian Serie A club Salernitana, for whom he has made 20 appearances in all competitions since joining them in August 2021.
As per the report, Salernitana will cover part of Simy's salary, meaning a loan move is being discussed.
Simy has an interesting CV - he was once Nigeria's all-time top scorer in the Italian top flight before the record was broken by a certain Victor Osimhen last season.
The 31-year-old counts Guo FC, Portimonense SC, Gil Vicente, Crotone, Parma and Benevento as his previous clubs.
Simy made two appearances for the Super Eagles at the 2018 World Cup, against Iceland and Argentina.
