'Boniface is a top goalscorer' - Younger of the Rummenigge brothers praises Bayer Leverkusen marksman
Published: November 01, 2023Retired Germany international Michael Rummenigge, younger brother of 1982 and 1986 World Cup star Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, has praised Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface for his goalscoring qualities.
The three-cap Nigeria international joined Bayer Leverkusen from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer transfer window for a fee in the region of 20 million euros.
Boniface has made a blistering start to his Bayer Leverkusen career with fourteen goal involvements (10 goals, 4 assists) in thirteen all-competition appearances.
The 22-year-old has won back-to-back Bundesliga Rookie of the Month awards in addition to being named the Player of the Month for August, and his goals have fired Bayer Leverkusen to the top of the table.
Michael Rummenigge emphasized that Bayer Leverkusen did everything right in the transfer market, with their new signings catching the eye.
"Jonas Hofmann has continued to improve because of his better teammates, Granit Xhaka is a real winner and Victor Boniface is a top goalscorer. There is also Alejandro Grimaldo, who is even a goal threat as a full-back," Michael Rummenigge wrote in a guest article for Sportbuzzer, via Sport.
Boniface's imperious displays in the Germany top flight have earned him call-ups for all the matches played by the Super Eagles in 2023-2024 and he is set to be included in the squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
