Super Eagles confirmed team news: Osimhen available for selection against Bafana Bafana
Published: February 06, 2024Nigeria will take on South Africa in a mouthwatering 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semifinal clash on Wednesday and manager Jose Peseiro has been handed a fitness boost ahead of the game with Victor Osimhen recovering from an abdominal discomfort that saw him left out of the traveling squad to Bouaké on Monday night.
The Super Eagles had their final training session on Tuesday at the Stade Annexe, Bouaké ahead of the game against Bafana Bafana.
According to a press release by Nigeria Football Federation's Communication Department, Osimhen took part in the training session (as pictured) after shaking off his fitness issues to join the team in Bouaké.
The Super Eagles number 9 has been declared fit and is available for selection in the semifinal meeting against South Africa on Wednesday.
Considering the fact that Osimhen sat out the last few training sessions before his trip to Bouaké, Peseiro will now have to decide whether to risk him from the start or start him from the bench in tomorrow's showdown.
Peseiro has relied heavily on the 25-year-old at the ongoing tournament, handing him starts in each of the five games played by the national team.
Despite netting just once at the 2023 AFCON, Osimhen's physicality, work rate and aerial presence have worried opposition defenses.
