Super Eagles icon Odegbami reveals Man Utd are interested in Odogu; likens him to Franz Beckenbauer

Super Eagles icon Segun Odegbami has revealed via a social media post that Manchester United are interested in signing David Odogu and has likened the German-Nigerian central defender to Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer.

The VfL Wolfsburg youth teamer played a vital role in the triumph of Germany in the 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup, where he featured in all games.

His performance earned him a lot of plaudits and that also drew comparison with the late Germany international and two-time Ballon d'Or winner Franz Beckenbauer, regarded as one of the best-ever center-backs.

Therefore, it is no surprise that he is being linked with a move away from Wolfsburg with Manchester United and Juventus now joining the duo of Arsenal, Chelsea and a host of others in the race for his signature.

Odegbami wrote on Facebook: "He is currently one of the most sought-after players in Europe by some of the biggest clubs - Juventus, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund, and so on. Teams are all asking about this prodigious, young, quick, tall, strong and very intelligent Central Defender - a libero.

"David is already being likened to the legendary late former Captain and former Coach of the German National team, Franz Berkenbauer, one of the greatest German footballers ever, one of only two footballers  in history to be have been named World Footballer of the Year (1972 and 1976) whilst playing at centre Back position. "

Odogu presently plays for Wolfsburg U19s and has made 16 appearances for them across all competitions this season, notching two goals and two assists, an impressive tally for a defender.

He joined the German outfit in 2020, and was playing for the U17s before the start of the current campaign.

The talented defender just signed a new contract with the Wolves but that is not expected to deter him from leaving the club any time from now.
