Camp update: Ten Eagles have landed in Morocco including Rangers striker, 3 Arsenal youth products
Published: March 19, 2024The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed this morning that ten of the twenty-seven players invited for the national team's March internationals are already in Morocco, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Among the players in camp is Rangers center forward Cyriel Dessers who has returned to the fold after roughly fourteen months in the international wilderness.
Dessers was included in Nigeria's provisional squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations but did not make the final squad even with the injuries to strikers Victor Boniface and Sadiq Umar.
Overall, the 29-year-old has not done badly since his move to the Light Blues, having registered 23 goal involvements (16 goals, 7 assists) in 43 outings, leading to a recall to the national team.
Arsenal's Hale End Academy products Alex Iwobi (Fulham) and Nathan Tella (Bayer Leverkusen) have also reported for international duty along with former Gunners U21 captain Semi Ajayi, who was one of the unsung heroes in the Super Eagles posting four consecutive clean sheets at the 2023 AFCON.
Another standout performer at the AFCON in Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has received the medical all-clear to link up with his international teammates after an injury-enforced substitution during the DStv Premiership match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United on March 9.
The five other players in camp as at 0941 hours on Tuesday are Moses Simon, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Calvin Bassey, Jamilu Collins and Bruno Onyemaechi.
The Super Eagles will hold their first training session on Tuesday, starting from 1630 hours local time.
